Honestly, a pal of mine yesterday mentioned something about the new Steven Universe episode that is so fucked up that I actually can’t stop thinking about it.
He was like “gems don’t have physical forms, they’re made of light, right? Someone asked Rebecca Sugar what happens when gems don’t get any light and she refused to answer - and now we’ve just seen Blue and Yellow toss Steven into a dark and isolated room that they clearly used with Pink in the past. Dude, they used to starve her.”
A lot of us saw White as the “abusive mother” character, but I think this shows that holy SHIT, Yellow and Blue were VERY abusive of Pink.
I think they’re kind of like, those parents that genuinely think they’re doing what’s best for their child and love them…. but in reality, their actions have done way more harm than good.
Like, no wonder Pink rebelled in such an outrageous way! No wonder she didn’t rebel as Pink - Nobody listened to Pink Diamond, so maybe they’d listen to Rose Quartz.
I think we’re all still recovering from the fact that Rose did a lot of terrible things, but honestly? I think the fact that she was still trying to be a good person despite having no model of what a good person actually was, is honestly a testament to her character. Rose Quartz has a messy, complicated history, but despite it all she was still trying to do the right thing - and as someone who in gem terms was probably more of a child than anything, too.
